Recently I asked our new Movement ART Programme 2 course participants to give me one word or phrase to describe the effect of JEMS® in their clinical practice since their Programme 1, and their responses told a beautiful story:
What is so striking is that the feedback is not expressing the “what” of techniques and skills, but the deeper layer of the “how”, the way of working, the feeling of it, the sense of wonder and space that holds the clinical interaction. This is how it feels to work authentically: to be present, self aware and curious, supported by a secure conceptual framework and strong technique, to confidently and creatively bring your unique gifts and talents to your patients and clients. It is a different paradigm in professional education, one that recognises that we don’t just learn to view our patients holistically, but also ourselves. A clinical interaction is, after all, the integration of what the patient brings, what we bring as practitioners and as human beings, and the unique dynamic that emerges between us.
