Moving the Brain: Transforming Exercise into Meaningful Movement.

There is so much more to successful rehabilitation than selecting the right exercises in the appropriate dosage.

Movement is more than “motor”. To facilitate effective movement, we need to talk to the brain in a language that it understands. Each person’s brain comes preloaded with a vast library of memories, assumptions, associations and emotional content, and the brain uses these to generate sensory predictions which become visible as movement.  This  can either be a barrier to change, or a powerful asset if we use this knowledge to influence the way we introduce and cue a movement. Contemporary brain science offers us a rich and expansive invitation to evolve beyond the conventional mind over matter approach and step into a method which reveals creative new choices and possibilities through the patient’s unfolding process of embodiment and self discovery.

If you’re not already a member of APM, you can join via their website starting with a 28 day trial for only £6
